An Antarctic Safari with Michelle Sole

In this week’s episode, Jomi has finally managed to make it down to South Africa and on location in Kruger National Park hosts our first guest on the show, Michelle Sole!

Michelle, originally from the UK, became a professional skier at the age of 14 and grew up chasing European winters. After completing a degree in Psychology, she moved to South Africa where she did her guiding qualifications before working as a safari guide in the Waterberg area, including Marataba where she crossed paths with Jomi and Hadley for a few years. She then did a year-long trip around the world and decided that working in the Arctic and Antarctic would be her next adventure.

We talk about how one can go on an Antarctic expedition that’s comfortable for even the non-seasoned traveller and why the company Michelle currently guides with, Quark, are perfect to travel with. Whether your interests lie in ornithology, marine biology, history or landscape, there’s something for everyone on a polar expedition.

Michelle also shares some of her stories with us, from seeing a polar bear right next to the ship to watching orcas (killer whales) hunting from a zodiac. Watch the video above to see some of Michelle's spectacular photos from both Antarctica and the Arctic.

Lastly, we also talk about where Michelle still wants to travel and what animal she still wants to see…can you guess?
